EL ÁRBOL Y EL BOSQUEFrei Betto¡Qué cínica es la moral usamericana! El gobernador de Nueva York renuncia tras haber sido sorprendido in fraganti mezclado en una sofistica red de prostitución. Torture Survivors Demand End to Torture LawJune is Torture Awareness Month Each June 26, hundreds of TASSC members, all survivors of state sponsored torture, gather in Washington, DC to commemorate the United Nation's "Day in Support of Victims and Survivors of Torture". This year, TASSC is launching a major campaign to repeal the Military Commissions Act of 2006, known to survivors as the Torture Law. This law allows for torture to be used in interrogations, it denies prisoners of their right to counsel and a fair trial and it allows perpetrators full immunity from prosecution. Stand with survivors of torture and help bring and end to the practice of torture worldwide!. First U.S. Social Forum to be held in Atlanta, Georgia: June 27 - July 1, 2007From June 27 through July 1, 2007, one of the most important political events in recent U.S. history will take place in Atlanta, Georgia. The United States Social Forum (USSF) will bring together generations of movement organizers and activists who realize that it is crucial that we come together to define a truly alternative political vision for the United States – a vision that unites us in a common cause against the exploitation of our labor, the poisoning of our environment, the militarization of our borders, the theft of our lands, and the invasion of other nations. The New Sanctuary Movement: Building on a Powerful TraditionOn May 9, religious leaders, confronting the unjust treatment of immigrant families, announced the launching of the New Sanctuary Movement. Supported by congregations from across the country, a multi-racial and multi-ethnic coalition that spans the political spectrum pledged to open their doors, hearts and collective actions to the "moral imperative" of immigrant rights. In the early 1980s, thousands of Central American refugees poured into the United States, fleeing life-threatening repression and extensive human rights violations by their governments. At the time, federal immigration policy would have denied the majority political asylum simply because their governments were allies of the U.S. Many of these refugees had actively participated in the liberation theology movement and naturally sought protection from congregations. SICSAL: International Christian Service in Solidarity with the Peoples of Latin AmericaThe International Christian Service in Solidarity with Latin America “Oscar Romero” (SICSAL) was founded in 1980 in response to the challenge of Christians involved in the people’s movements of Central America inspired by Archbishop Oscar Romero and all those who gave their lives in faithfulness to the Gospel and to the option for the poor.
